Who are we at Hwyliaith?

Nia Llywelyn, the founder of Hwyliaith, has worked as a junior school teacher, an assessor for Mudiad Meithrin in Child Care, and as a Welsh language tutor in recent years.

While leading a ‘Welsh for Families’ session in Powys, she noticed a lack of simple story books with repetitive, useful language patterns to help parents learn Welsh with their children.

Recognising this gap, she convinced her father, Emyr Llywelyn, to write a series of books titled ‘Storïau Sam y Ci(‘Sam the Dog’ Stories). To accompany the books, a mini course for families was designed called ‘Cynllun Dweud a Gwneud’ / ‘Do and Say Scheme’.

This includes short songs, dialogues, and activities that reinforce learning, with a focus on actions, movement and gestures to make learning Welsh fun and engaging.

It was highly effective in creating an educational triangle – the family, children, and nurseries/schools – to reinforce language learning as a shared experience.

Building on her years of experience with Welsh learners, Nia has created additional materials to enhance these popular resources, all of which are now available to purchase online.

This resource is designed for anyone who wants to make language learning fun and enjoyable. We have set a fair price for these resources because we believe Welsh should be accessible to everyone, helping it thrive as a living language beyond the classroom.
