Hwyliaith was founded by Nia Llywelyn, an experienced junior school teacher, childcare assessor, and Welsh tutor. While leading ‘Welsh for Families’ sessions in Powys, she spotted a gap: there were few simple, storybooks with fun activities and catchy songs to help parents and children learn Welsh together.
Nia teamed up with her father, Emyr Llywelyn, to create Storïau Sam y Ci (Sam the Dog Stories), supported by a mini-course for families – the original Do and Say method. This approach proved so successful that it created an ‘educational triangle’ between families, children and schools, making Welsh learning a shared and joyful experience.
Hwyliaith offers an expanded range of affordable, accessible materials to help Welsh thrive as a living language beyond the classroom.
